something is happening

Last night I met with a handful of folks from other churches and various agencies that have been trying to reach out to drug addicts and those affected by addiction. We began discussion of putting together a city wide “Celebration of Recovery” event, followed by community events. We are hoping to have at least four of these community events over the course of a year in four of the areas of town which have been hardest hit by addiction. These events would be community driven and cap off with testimonials from many who’ve made a complete recovery or are in recovery. At the end, area pastors and laity will be able to pray with/for individuals. These events will be high energy, entertaining, and encourage neighborhood relationships while providing meals for everyone. Basically they will be huge block parties for entire communities.

This past weekend a group of pastors and laity were invited to re-dedicate our city hall to Christ . It was unbelievable. What was fun was when the administrative director couldn’t find the key for council chambers and we had to pick the lock ;)

This coming Saturday the Mission Tri-State pastors and prayer movements from several churches are coming together for the first two of the “Four Corners” prayer events. We will meet at 27th Street Park (the Northern most point of the city) and re-dedicate the North to Christ. We will then partake of communion and bury half of the remaining elements of communion as a symbol of invoking God’s redemption over the Northern corner of the city. We then will move to Altizer Park (the Eastern most point of the city) and do much of the same, burying the second half of the elements and invoking redemption over the Eastern most corner of the city. Two weeks later we will pray over the South and West points. There is great expectancy.

As for the Tenth Avenue congregation, The Bridge continues tomorrow night, and the community’s reception is wonderful. In addition we will be hosting a “Deliverance Crusade” in less than a month with a pastor/evangelist from KY whom God miraculously delivered from drugs and alcohol eight years ago. He has been pastoring for less than three years and has taken a church plant, merged it with an older congregation and now has a strong church with 250 people bringing Christ to North Eastern KY.

So I say all that to say this, something is happening…and it gets more exciting with each passing day.
