what does “holiness” mean?

The same God who said “Let there be light” and there was light and it was good is the same God who said “Be holy for I am holy”. Yet it seems that holiness is the last thing on the Christian’s to do list. Maybe that is the problem, it has become something we do instead of a way to be.

We have had seasons of “holiness” where we mimic the holiness of another or we try to make ourselves out to be holy based on the ideals of others. Yet at the end of the day, the only way we can truly be holy is to draw close enough to the Creator of all that is and have Him speak into us “Be holy because I am holy”.

I can set myself apart…self consecration. I can cleanse myself to a certain extent…self sanctification. Yet I can not make myself holy. Only the One who dwells in holiness can impart that gift of grace, and only by walking near to Him can that gift be maintained.

God, please speak holiness again, because our own piety…my own piety… is sorely lacking…
